Biography: Parveen Sultana

Parveen Sultana is the leading female vocalist of India. starting her initial training from her father late Janab Ikramul Majid of Assam, she later underwent rigorous training under the late sangeetacharya Chinmoy Lahiri of Calcutta. She owes her present from and classicism of her style to the talim, she has getting from eminent vocalist of kirana gharana, Shri Dilash Khan. She is endowed with a matchless voices of three and half octaves range, tonal purity, clarity and incredible virtuosity and has perfected the development (badat) of ragas. She is one of the very few artists to claim equal rapport from Hindustani and Karnataka music audiences. She along with Shri Dilash Khan is well known to be "best known duo in the country today of Hindustani music". Their jugalbandis (duets) are indeed the attraction in all the big musical events in India and abroad. She along with her husband Dilash Khan has performed in foreign countries  and received applauses. She has got a number of  classical records at her credit. She has been titles and has been awarded Padmashri in 1976 by the Government of India.
